Does glucosamine help to relieve lower-back pain? (Source: NYT Health)
Tags: Help, Disputed, Vital, Source, pain sourcea couple years back, it was a very stressful time and I wasn’t thinking straight and got really frustrated and strained the area on the right side of my face above my eye etc, I did it a few different occasions and well I felt really sick then after and really dizzy and had trouble seeing and talking and my right eye was down and my face looked dead on that side, I had a lot of trouble thinking too like thinking really slowly as well as feeling like I would throw up when trying to use the computer, horrible headaches, then when trying to sleep it felt like the muscles in my head grinding or something from being strained, i noticed my right ear moving (from the muscles around it i believe), my jaw muscles or something started locking at night in an open position (kind of springy, up and down but couldn’t close) which i think caused some tmj like problems, I also had horrible chest pain and shortness of breath at rest or after exercising, i felt pain during exercise too it was a struggle to go exercise but i felt better then than when not exercising, i think the chest pain is muscular as it felt like the muscles were going around my pecs up towards my neck and around the ears, prob from straining the muscles so much, my neck and jaw muscles have been getting weaker, i have taken a lot of warm baths over the last couple years and ice packs and was sleeping a lot, and my face looks better but still kinda bad especially if not getting tons of sleep, the muscles (esp face, neck, jaw, chest, feel very weak when not getting lots of sleep), some of the other things have improved too but i’m still having problems, i’m wearing a splint for tmj because i have muscle spasms around the jaw, neck etc, does anyone have any advice on doctors to see or things to have checked? any exams or scans, maybe for facial trauma? or serious things to rule out that could have happened? I have had a chest xray, basic blood tests (cbc?), checkup with neurologist, head/brain mri?, optometrist vision exam, or any tips for improving muscle weakness esp around jaw, face, neck chest, i am mainly concerned now with that, the shortness of breath, trouble talking, jaw muscle spasms and my facial appearance still looks kinda bad on the right side around the eye and that area, stress makes the muscles spasm more and causes them to be weaker but it’s not the main cause, it all started when i did that to my head, i continued to keep going and exercise which could have made things worse, and there was a lot of fighting in my house and yelling so i could have strained even more my neck or jaw, and made the muscles spasm and get weaker and worse, but now things are better and i want to get help so i can be 100% again, any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
sorry it’s so long, if anyone has any medical experience and good advice please answer, thanks!
I tore one of my lower back muscles back in May 2006 whilst playing netball. I was checked out at the hospital and given some fabulous drugs. I had 3 months off netball but have been going back on and off since end of July. It still isn’t right and I still get pain and am scared to put 100% in case I injure myself further.
Anyone know how long I should leave it until going back to netball fulltime? Anyone know anything I can do to get my back back to normal quicker?
I have tried Chiropractor and Osteopath but they can’t do anything for me. Massages help slightly but I am so sore afterwards, plus she says she cannot really do anything for me because the fibres that were torn have clumped together and are causing pressure on my spine! Any help would be sooo appreciated, I’m desperate to get back to exercising!
it’s been about 5years since the back of my neck started to feel really stiff and soar. I’ve been to chiropractors’ office but they seem to give me temporary relief rather than a perment treatment. When I put my head back my neck feels really soar and stiff almost like I have a steel plate in my neck. The doctors say that it’s just posture and sleeping position, but the pain has been with me so long that I think there might be something else wrong. What can I do???
I have been having shoulder blade pain for a couple of years now. I am only 24 years old and have pain in my left shoulder blade. I was going to a chiropractor but stopped going because I moved to a different state. I haven’t been back to one in over two years and my shoulder blade still hurts. The chiropractor told me that my pain could be due to stress but I really don’t think he really knew what was wrong with my shoulder. I just really need some relief
Commonly around the world people are looking for back pain help. The problem is resulting from many different reasons varying from old injuries, poor posture, high school or college sports, work out injuries, or simply putting your body through much turmoil trying to be that perfect ballerina or sportsman while growing up.

Follow each lower back pain exercise to deturmine if the muscles in your hips are so tight as to cause discomfort in the back, legs, hips. If these muscles are very tight then I reccoment that you purchase this DVD so that you can stretch the inside of the hips, the outside of the hips and stregthen the weak areas at the same time. This DVD is available at backandhiprelief.com. I will try to get to questions as I can but I am not on this site very often due to my work load. I have really bad lower back pain. When I’m on the computer, I’m hunched over a lot too. Now, when i try to sit up straight for too long I get severe pain in my lower back. Anyone know any good stretches or exercises that will help strengthen my back? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Doubtful,
There is much disagreement about both the effectiveness and risks involved with chiropractic treatment. In my opinion, it is the only thing that should needs to be said about chiropractic adjustment:
A chiropractor cannot “cure” your condition or any other– at best, they would just make your muscles feel better. It would be best to first see your doctor—a real physician—and be referred to a physical therapist or an orthopedic specialist. I would advise that your do everything you can to avoid chiropractic treatment, as it will often do more harm than good.
Chiropractors have to believe that everything causes conditions that only they can fix so they can convince patients that we can’t live comfortably without visits twice per week.
I had a stroke last year as a result of chiropractic treatment and have since made it a priority to raise awareness of the dangers of chiropractic care. I ask that anyone going to visit a chiropractor to be aware of the risks and make an informed decision about treatment.
Although the chiropractic community will argue that I don’t have a degree and I don’t know what I am talking about, I only want to make sure people considering chiropractic treatment that there are risks. I have nothing to gain from this. Can chiropractors say the same? Make sure you get both sides of the story!
I have had back pain since I was little. When I was young it was because of a very small curvature of the spine. I have grown out of that but now I am 29 and have been living with major pain everyday for the last 10-15 years. The doctors had found a bulged disk but the pain is in 3 major areas not just where the bulged disk is. Its my neck and bottom of my head, the sides of my spine, and the bottom of my back. It gets so bad I get nauseous and I can’t afford to get massages or go to the doctor, due to my insurance. I plan on going to the dr anyway but I need help now! I feel so sick! I just need a tip for immediate relief. Pain medicane does not work. Stretching only works a little same as a hot bathe. What else can I do?
I am having KILLER backpains the past week.
I am 23 weeks pregnant, with a retroverted uterus (my uterus is tilted towards my spine instead of outwards).
What the pai feels like is a pinched nerve in my lower back, only on the left side. Sometimes my whole leg goes numb. It flares up more and more with each passing day. Usually happens when I bend or twist my torso, which is REALLY hard to avoid doing (I have a 5 year old son, a dog, etc). It feels like a pinching, twingey pain that shoots up my back and down my legs. Pain is almost in my left bum cheek, if that makes sense. I have an appointment with a chiropractor in 4 days, thank goodness. My dr prescribed me some painkillers and anti inflammatories until then, but I want something natural and easy to stop the pain… It’s almost like I have to shuffle my feet because when I lift my left leg its excruciating pain… do you know exercises that would help me? I do pregnancy yoga most days but havent been able to because of the pain
i got diagnosed with fibromyalgia and reactive arthritus yesterday. any help or advice from others effected by both these things greatly appreciated, thanks!
Tags: Arthritis, fibromyalgia, chiropractor, Reactive, HI am suffering from pain in my lower back, left hip and leg. It hurts to walk, climb stairs, stump, even get up and down from a chair or sofa, and lifting. My doctor just called with my results of the xrays. I have server narrowing of the L5. He
has prescribed some back exercises to try for now. Will excercises really help?
I have an almost constant low back pain that I think have incurred from doing some ab workouts the wrong way. I am a pretty active young male who goes to the gym often. Is there a few good stretches that I can do to warm up before lifting weights that will help me get rid of this pain?

After a recent family trauma, I have finally pitched to it to change my lifestyle and get to being a healthier me. I have dieted before and yo-yo ed in weight and am an emotional eater. Now I am finally on a food regimen that works and check if I’m hungry/ use activities to help anxiety rather then food, and watch what I eat. I eat healthy foods, watch my calories and fats, and make sure I have good snacks like fruits and vegetables around the house.
Clearly that’s not a problem, instead the problem I am having is that I really want to start working exercise into this lifestyle. I’m a full time college student, and live at home. I don’t have the ability to transport myself other places, but that isn’t the main issue. At the age of fifteen I was in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in lumbar disc herniation and really bad sciatica. Another accident last January left me in even more constant chronic pain. I have searched the web for
mri showed i have diteration between my disc, which is effecting the nerves and muscles in my back, doctors says theirs not much they can do besides cortisone shots ,which i will be having them coming up.i have vicadin to take but don’t get much relief, have any suggestions, would be helpful.
I’m an arborist and i do a lot of work with my back (climbing tree’s, hauling wood/brush) and i have been told that if i lay on my back on a harder surface other than my bed like the floor that it would probably help to get rid of some of the pain that is constantly there, so i was just wondering if this was a good idea or not.
