October is National Chiropractic Month but what do we really know about chiropractic treatment? Chiropractic, founded in the 1890s by Daniel David Palmer in Davenport, Iowa, is a health care discipline and profession that generally emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect the general health via the nervous system.
Chiropractic is a healing discipline that involves spinal manipulation. Since the body has its own ability to heal based on the spine as a vital body part, then the purpose of chiropractic treatment is to stabilize the body connections to create an overall positive effect on health.
Most of the people take back pain lightly and pays the price later. In fact, back pain is one such problem that should be taken with great seriousness. Chiropractic practitioners and experts consider back pain as a symptom of several physical problems that may come up. Chiropractic cure can be among the best cures for best pain. Many Chiropractic techniques can be used for curing back pain.
When it comes to choosing a chiropractor in Denver, not all treatments are created equal. If you’re in the market for long term, more permanent improvements to your spine you may want to consider a different kind of chiropractor than someone who looks to treat injuries on a short term basis.
Conclusion:
In our clinic, the management strategy of routinely performing an up-front MRI at the start of treatment did reduce the duration of treatment and number of contacts with clinicians, and did not increase the rate of referral for back surgery. Also, the direct costs were not increased. (Source: Chiropractic and Osteopathy)
Chiropractors use a manual treatment technique referred to as a chiropractic adjustment to change the health of the patients that they work with. Patients seek out chiropractors for many different health concerns, but most commonly for problems such as lower back pain, headaches, and neck pain. But what exactly do chiropractic adjustments do?
Had any headache pain recently? You’re not alone, 1 out of every 6 people living in the United States suffers from chronic headaches. As a business owner and chiropractor working in Plano, TX, I used to have a lot of headaches like new patients who come to see me for back or neck pain issues. This led me to develop expertise in diagnosing and treating headaches brought on by spinal problems with chiropractic. Now headaches are a thing of the past and when I visit with my patients they are quite surprised to learn that I treat certain types of headache pain through chiropractic care. Many patients I’ve visited with really have a lot of misconceptions about what a chiropractor does.
Sadly, my patients are like the majority of the people in America who have suffered for months and even years with headache pain because all their physician and specialist offered was drugs and more drugs. Medication is like a band aid it dulls the pain but will not treat the cause, which is why the headache returns.
Besides treating spine induced headaches, I also offer chiropractic care that is quite effective in treating tension headaches. Past studies have found that individuals undergoing chiropractic therapy for tension headaches showed sustained reduction in headache frequency and severity compared with patients who took prescribed medication as the only source of relief directed at tension headaches.
The findings in these studies indicate that chiropractic care is not actually therapy or treatment, but rather it targets the root cause of the problem. Simply put your body effects a correction through the spine and nerves that resolves the primary cause of the headache which in turn extends lasting results beyond the initial care.
As I mentioned earlier, a majority of my patients think of me as a back doctor. Something society has branded all chiropractors with, which is both good and bad. Over the last few years there has be continual supportive documentation that proves chiropractic is also effective in the treatment of headaches originating from spinal issues, migraines and cluster headaches. In fact, the American Chiropractic Association reports that more than 15 percent of the public who see chiropractors presently go for headaches.
Even as the number of people seeking chiropractic care for headaches increases, the majority of people in America continue to use their family physician as the primary source of treatment for their headaches with little or no success.
Six of the most common misconceptions about headache relief have been listed below. See if you identify with any of them.
1. Your Headaches will stop with On the Shelf Medication.
“Drugs only mask the pain. If the drugs you buy or are prescribed, treated the real cause, your headaches would go away permanently. None of us were born with too few Tylenol in our system. A lack of drugs is not the cause.”
2. Medication for Your Headache Will Not Harm You.
“On the contrary, certain medication can create negative effects on your body that are more damaging than the headache you’re trying to relieve. People find it hard to believe that you can cause internal damage to your body if you take excessive amounts of ibuprofen over short periods of time. Yet it is sold over the counter with no major restrictions.”
3. Stress Is The Major Cause For Headaches.
“Stress is a part of everyone’s life; it is not the cause of headaches. Rather it’s how your body adjusts to stress that affects your health. Chiropractic care can provide ways to help you increase the body ability to adjust to stress of any kind.”
4. Headaches Will Always Go Away On Their Own.
“Without treating the cause, or root of the problem, they won’t go away, they’ll continue to come back and possibly more frequently.”
5. Your Family Doctors Know How To Treat Headaches.
“If this was true, family doctors would have fewer patients and the pharmaceutical companies would have a lot less profit. Can you imagine what would happen if no one ever suffered from headaches. Chiropractors do have solutions that don’t involve drugs or invasive treatments.”
6. Your Problem Is Always Where Your Pain Is.
“In fact, not all headaches originate in the head. For instance, a person who suffered a neck injury from a car accident, playing sports, or a fall as a child, could suffer head pain later on. These are called cervicogenic headaches because they result from tension placed on the cervical joints in the neck and head muscles.”
As an experienced Chiropractor, I have great success in treating headaches because most headaches are either soft tissue or neurologic in nature. Also, a significant portion of headaches originate in the tissues of the neck. And since chiropractic care focuses treatment on the soft tissues of the spine, which includes the neck, the majority of headaches can be successfully managed with an appropriate series of spinal adjustments and specific massage therapy. Best of all, chiropractic procedures consist of only safe, natural, and noninvasive therapies that focus on correcting the cause of headaches, and not simply the short-term masking of symptoms.

Dr. H. Khayal is a board certified chiropractor and a graduate of Parker College of Chiropractic. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. After gaining clinical experience as an associate doctor, he started his own practice in the Dallas/Plano area. Having lived in the metroplex for over 22 years, Dallas was the obvious choice to open his clinic. Premier Health Clinic attracted patients from all over the city and surrounding areas. With referrals being the number one source of new patients seeking Dr. Khayal’s care, he treats hundreds of patients every month.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic here in Dallas, Texas, I work with a lot of patients who have joints that are misaligned. I provide various chiropractic treatments to cure this problem and I want to explain why the misalignment and lock up occurs. The function of each joint is to move two bones in relation to each other under muscular action. The muscles act, when they receive impulses, through nerves that originate in the spinal cord. The vertebral joints are like most other joints in that they move within defined limits corresponding to muscle activity that is controlled by nerves streaming from the spinal cord.
Very often injury, improper posture or other factors can irritate sensitive joint capsules that hold the lubricant that bathes the joint. A protective response is triggered that sends messages to muscles that control the joint, causing them to contract.
The result is to confine movement that might create more pain. This mechanism can also be triggered by injury or stress to other parts of the vertebra, such as its ligaments, disc, nerve, bone and even its own muscles. So any strain or injury to the joint or its associated structures may cause a muscle contraction that locks the joint partially or in its entirety. That locking can occur with the joint in its neutral “aligned” position or, if muscles contract, from its neutral position, the bones appear “out of alignment”.
The mechanism serves a purpose while the injured tissue is healing by acting as nature’s own joint splint. If you get a cut on your hand, you see how fast your cut heals, the skin becomes elastic and returns to normal. Unfortunately the spinal splinting mechanism can sometimes go wrong long beyond the time needed to revive the damaged tissue. The contracting muscle can be so over effective that it constricts its own blood supply, releasing acids that build up and trigger nerve endings into sensing pain, creating a further protective spasm. A vicious cycle has been completed. In such an area one ligament might be held in stretch while the opposite side remains lax. As time passes, the ligaments will respond by lengthening and shortening respectively to balance the force or pressure placed on them, perpetuating the “misaligned” appearance.
If you have a set of joints in a certain area of your back, lock up then other joints in the surrounding area must over compensate by increasing their own movement. As these other joints increase their range they become less stable and themselves run the risk of strain or premature wear and tear that results in “osteoarthritis”.
You can envision that as the affected area slowly gets tighter and stiffer, bending, lying on your back, or on one side can become a continual problem. The process can proceed unnoticed over months or even years until the over flexible area is injured and become painfully irritated. The solution is to seek chiropractic help and reduce or eliminate this from growing into a much larger problem that can lead to surgery. You should see your chiropractor at least once a year just for a routine check up because with the advances in equipment and techniques we use, you will find that simple adjustments and therapy will prevent these issues I’ve listed above from ever becoming a problem.

Many people live with pain unnecessarily, or take powerful drugs and suffer the side-effects without ever addressing the root cause of the problem. Chiropractic is an alternative healthcare approach that enhances the body’s ability to heal itself with improved function and immune system strength.
The term Chiropractic is used to define a therapeutic system used to take care of the pain and conditions associated with the spine and nervous system. This technique involves manipulating the spinal column and also the vertebrae in the spine to deal with these issues. A good Pensacola chiropractor will assist you to deal with these and a lot of other health related problems.

Pain going down your leg secondary to a herniated disc is a common and often disabling occurrence. A disc in your spine is composed of 2 simple elements, the inner nucleus pulposis that is a jellylike in composition and the outer annulus fibrosis that is fibro-cartilaginous and very strong. When a individual feels trauma and the forces are directed at the spine and disc, it increases the pressure on the inside of the disc (like stepping on a balloon) and the inner nucleus pulposis puts pressure, from the inside out and tears the outer annulus fibrosis causing the inner material to go outside the outer boundaries of the disc.
These days, it seems you can’t read the paper or magazine without hearing the word ‘wellness’ or ‘wellness center’ in regards to anything health related. Actually, you can even find the term used in fields that aren’t even health related. Personal care products, like some shampoos have even used the term.

There are a whole host of names that go along with this healing art known as Network Chiropractic. This term is used to describe the offices worldwide that offer this very specific form of chiropractic care. Each office that belongs to the list of associated practitioners has at its core a fundamental philosophy of using the Network Spinal Analysis protocol for addressing one’s body and spinal distortion patterns.
First: check in your local phone book. This is a simple way to get started. There should be at least a few pages that are specific to chiropractors. There will also be some large full page advertisements that explain fully philosophy and what they can treat. If you give them a call many will offer your first visit on the house. This will give you an opportunity to test the waters without breaking your pocket book in your search. If they don’t advertise a free first visit that you may want to ask.
Second: ask around. Many of your neighbors may have had experience with your local Columbus chiropractors. In your conversations with people ask if they have any advice on who you should see. Try to inquire about the chiropractor’s personal style. There are no chiropractic colleges in the state of Ohio so you will have a wide variety of styles to choose from.
Finally: check the internet. Many chiropractors have great websites. Try to do a specific search in a search engine for the phrase “Columbus Ohio Chiropractic”. This will give you the most relevant results. Remember that many wonderful chiropractors have sites that may not be listed highly with the search engines. You will need to dig deep in your search so visit many of the result pages. There are also websites that offer reviews by patients. These can be very helpful by reading what others have said.
Don’t get frustrated in your search. The right chiropractor is out there. Just stay diligent in your search and when you find one you like stick with them. There are many wonderful health benefits that a chiropractor can provide. Columbus is one of the best areas in the country to find a chiropractor due to the variety and uniqueness that exist.
